Free wireless in downtown Toronto

I’ve been spending plenty of time in the last few months in downtown Toronto, specifically in the financial district.  Wifidel has become my life-line to the world when I’m down here, with their free hotspots scattered throughout the underground PATH system.

The service quality is good, I can connect up to my corporate VPN, and there’s always some tables nearby where I can work.  No additional spyware or advertising required, the hotspots are sponsored by the merchant where they are installed.

Some tips:

  • The “Treats” location in the Sunlife Tower has some comfy couches with power outlets nearby
  • Absolutely no power available in the Commerce Court location
  • If you’re having troubles, call their support line.  They had someone come down to help me out within 15 minutes
  • They also have free kiosks (FreOsk) if you just need to check your webmail quickly while between meetings

Pretty darn good for the low, low price of free!
