Netflix and Warner Brothers teaming for movies on demand test

This is why the major players in the digital media business need to show that they are serious about DRM and copy protection.  Yes, I know that it’s a pain right now when a manufacturer implements DRM on a product (like Media Center) but ultimately it’s these decisions that will get all the major players working together.  Looks like WB and Tivo are going to put this theory to the test – notice that they are only working with a provider who is working to show their commitment to DRM.

Until the device and software providers can prove that the content is secure, we won’t see any really interesting content available.  That is the case for movies on demand, there simply isn’t any decent content available because everyone’s afraid it will get pirated.

I sincerely hope that Netflix and WB are able to prove that delivering digital high-value content is a worthwhile business practice.  I no longer want to be forced to rent DVDs when there’s a perfectly good delivery device in my home theater system for the same content.
