Gateway FMC-901x USB disconnection workaround

I thought it would be worthwhile to post about the issues I’ve had with the USB on my Gateway system, for the benefit of the masses who may be googling for a workaround.

Problem:  When passing data through the Gateway FMC-901x USB2 ports at a high rate, the device disconnects.  This has been experienced with the Hauppauge PVR USB2 tuner, and the Creative Zen Portable Media Center.  Symptoms are the same on the front and back USB ports.

Workaround:  I have absolutely no explanation for it, but in both cases the problem goes away when connecting via a powered USB2 hub.  Plug the hub into the USB port on the back of the 901x, and then connect your high-bandwidth devices to the hub.
